Part of the Tongariro National Park these 3 active volcanos dominate the landscape in the Central North Island of New Zealand and look stunning when viewed across Lake Taupō. Mt Ruapehu is the highest point in the North Island and is a popular place for winter sports especially at Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas. In summer the Tongariro Crossing is a must-do activity for adventurous visitors.

I'm so pleased to present this modern art print as this area has special significance for our family. My partner David's side belong to the Iwi (indigenous Maori tribe) called Ngāti Tūwharetoa who are based in this area and his marae (sacred communal place) is on the shores of Lake Taupō. In Māori culture the connections to home and ancestors are an important source of identity and mana (sacred power). For members of Ngāti Tūwharetoa - Tongariro is the mountain (Ko Tongariro te maunga) and Taupō is the great inland sea (Ko Taupō te moana). I hope you enjoy this art!
